Some tragic news has hit Belgian football today as the news was broken that Glen De Boeck has died at the age of 54. De Boeck went into a coma on Friday after a brain hemorrhage and did not wake up, passing away at the hospital in Antwerp. It has been a tragic year for his family, who saw both De Boeckโs parents die earlier in the year. Recently, De Boeck has been working as a pundit for Belgian TV, but was involved in coaching at Kortrijk during the 2023/2024 season.
De Boeck had a fantastic playing career in Belgium. He spent the best part of a decade with Anderlecht after joining from KV Mechelen in 1995. He captained the Mauves and won three titles. He was also a full international for the Belgian Red Devils, appearing at two World Cups (1998 and 2002). In the end, injuries meant he had to end his playing career in 2005.
However, De Boeck immediately took up coaching. He came close to winning the Belgian Cup while at Cercle Brugge, finishing as runners up in the 2010 final. De Boeck also had spells at Waasland-Beveren, Mouscron, Kortrijk twice and Lokeren. The thoughts of everyone at Get Football are with the family of De Boeck at this sad time.
