Tottenham close to reaching agreement with Wolfsburg for Micky van de Ven

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are close to reaching an agreement with VfL Wolfsburg for Micky van de Ven. The deal is heading into the final stages and full agreement is expected to be reached soon. The 22-year-old Dutch defender has already agreed personal terms with Tottenham.

Micky van de Ven featured 36 times for Wolfsburg last season, as the Bundesliga side finished the campaign in 8th place. The former FC Volendam centre-back joined the club in August 2021. Last season he emerged as one of Wolfsburg’s standout stars. Along with goalkeeper Koen Casteels, the left-footed defender played more minutes last season than anyone else in the squad (3,240). The Netherlands U21 international recorded a top speed of 35.97 (km/h) which is higher than the likes of Kingsley Coman (Bayern Munich) and Timo Werner (RB Leipzig).

FC Volendam are set to benefit from Micky van de Ven’s transfer. The side that finished 14th in the Eredivisie last season have a 15% sell-on clause in the player’s contract. They sold him to Wolfsburg in 2021 for just €3.5m. Last month it was reported that Tottenham would have to pay between €30m and €40m for the defender, but that fee could change.
