According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have opened direct talks with VfL Wolfsburg for Micky van de Ven. The 22-year-old Dutch defender is one of their top targets this summer and the North London club are determined to get the deal done. Van de Ven’s contract at Wolfsburg is valid until 2027, which means Tottenham will have to meet their asking price. The Bundesliga side value the defender at €30-€40m.
Van de Ven featured 36 times for Wolfsburg last season, as the Bundesliga side finished the campaign in 8th place. The former FC Volendam centre-back joined the club in August 2021. Last season he emerged as one of Wolfsburg’s standout stars. Along with goalkeeper Koen Casteels, the left-footed defender played more minutes last season than anyone else in the squad (3,240). The Netherlands U21 international recorded a top speed of 35.97 (km/h) which is higher than the likes of Kingsley Coman (Bayern Munich) and Timo Werner (RB Leipzig).Â
Tottenham are also said to be interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba. However, the 24-year-old defender could cost significantly more than Micky Van de Ven. A verbal proposal is set to be submitted soon for the Dutch defender, who is said to be keen on the move. He’s young and has plenty of potential, therefore, he could be a brilliant signing for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham.
