Tim Krul not in World Cup contention after declining Louis van Gaal invitation

Louis van Gaal has said he won’t be selecting Tim Krul in his World Cup squad after the goalkeeper decided not to attend a penalty test at the training camp.

Van Gaal has openly said his choice of goalkeepers to take to Qatar will be largely determined by how good they are at saving penalties.

To find how which ones are best in that department, he’s put together a “scientific” test at the training camp this week and has invited goalkeepers not in the squad to attend.

He extended such an invitation to Krul, who decided not to accept it, and as a result, Van Gaal won’t be considering him when choosing the final squad.

“He called me to say that he is passing for that, I can understand that,” he said.

“I am sorry because I know the figures of the keepers. Due to this decision, the conclusion is that he will not go along to the World Cup.”
