Three Belgian based players included in Algeria’s provisional squad as Fennec Foxes hunt third AFCON win

Algeria have announced their provisional 40-man squad for the upcoming AFCON in January. Three Belgian based players have been included in the squad. Charleroi’s combative midfielder Adem Zorgane is likely to make the final cut. So far this season the 23-year-old has played in all 18 Pro League matches for the Zebras, providing four assists in the process.

Union St Gilloise in form striker Mohamed Amoura is also in the squad and, given his form this season, could be a player that has a real impact for the side in the Cote d’Ivoire in January. Since joining the current league leaders from Lugano in the summer the 23-year-old forward has scored an impressive 14 goals in just 20 games.

The final name included on the list is Kortrijk’s playmaker Abdelkahar Kadri. The 23-year-old was recently removed as captain of Kortrijk by former head coach Glen De Boeck. So far this season the 23-year-old has made 17 league appearances for the side bottom of the Pro League. He has two goals and one assist. There were rumours that a handful of clubs were interested in signing him during the summer, so a good AFCON could certainly help him earn a move away from relegation threatened Kortrijk.

Algeria will face Angola, Burkina Faso and Mauritania in their group, with their first game against the Angolans on the 15th of January. The Fennec Foxes will be looking to win the tournament for just the third time in their history, having previously lifted the trophy in 1990 and 2019.
