Thierry Henry to take charge of Belgium against the Netherlands

Thierry Henry is to manage Belgium in their match against the Netherlands following Roberto Martinez’s red card against Wales.

Martinez was shown a somewhat harsh red card in the final minutes of his side’s 2-1 victory against Wales for picking the ball up to waste time.

“I grabbed the ball and that might have been a yellow card, but red?” the manager said afterwards.

As a result, he’ll be suspended for the match against the Netherlands, and it has been confirmed that, in his absence, assistant manager Henry will take charge.

In the build-up to the match, nothing will change, but it will be him rather than Martinez that makes changes and issues instructions during the match.

“Our preparation will be no different than usual, the coach is there, but the adjustment during the match will be different,” said Axel Witsel.

“Fortunately, the group is mature enough. I thought red was strict, by the way, it was weird. If the players waste time, we just get yellow.”
