Tension building at Kortrijk as Adnan Custovic criticises fans

Following their 1-1 draw at home with Cercle Brugge, Kortrijk head coach Adnan Custovic was critical of the fans reaction to his substitutions. As reported by Voetbalkrant, Custovic was responding to the boos that preceded the introduction of Bilal El Messaoudi. Messaoudi went on the score the equalising goal in the 79th minute. Speaking after the game, Custovic said “I was not satisfied that our fans whistled for Messaoudi when he came in. We have to support him in a difficult period, this behavior is not appropriate for a family club like KV Kortrijk . You don’t normally see that here”.

Custovic was surprisingly given the head coach role at the Kerels following the dismissal of Karim Bellochine early on in the 2022/2023 season. Results have so far been mixed, with an impressive win against Antwerp at home followed by a loss in the derby against fellow strugglers Zulte Waregem.

Kortrijk have only won two of their nine games since Custovic took over. With no wins in five, the side currently occupy the final relegation spot with just 12 points from 15 games.
