Telstar knock out KNVB Cup holders Go Ahead Eagles as historic run continues

For only the second time in the clubs history, Telstar are into the semi-finals of the KNVB Cup. It has been quite the 12 months for Telstar, who made a shock return to the Eredivisie via the play offs last season and have now beaten KNVB Cup holders Go Ahead Eagles. For the first time since the 1991/1992 season, the club are back in the semi-finals of the Dutch cup competition.

The last time that Telstar made it this far, the side had beaten USV Elinkwijk, RKC Waalwijk, FC Eindhoven, and HFC Haarlem. In the semi-final they came up against Rode JC, who were eventually victorious. That year the KNVB CUP was eventually won by Feyenoord, who won 3-0 in the final.

Last season Go Ahead Eagles shocked Dutch football by winning the cup. The side beat AZ in the final, with a late goal in normal time sending the game into extra-time. Go Ahead Eagles eventually lifted the KNVB Cup after winning on penalties.

The final four of this years competition are all Eredivisie sides. AZ are back in the semi-finals, with NEC Nijmegen and PSV joining Telstar as the sides vying for a place in this years KNVB Cup final.
