Sunderland confirm signing of Jenson Seelt from PSV Eindhoven

Sunderland have confirmed the signing of former PSV Eindhoven player Jenson Seelt on a five-year deal in what has been a busy summer transfer window for the EFL Championship club.

Seelt, 20, joins Luis Hemir Silva Semedo, Nectar Triantis and Jobe Bellingham in a huge revamp at the Stadium of Light and comes highly thought of to the club.

The defender never made a full senior appearance for the Eredivisie club but is believed he will get first-time football at the Wearside which is something Seelt is looking forward to.

After arriving on Wearside, he said: “It feels great to be here – Sunderland is a big Club and this is a big opportunity for me, so I can’t wait to get started.

I’m the type of defender who likes to play with the ball at my feet, but I also enjoy an aerial duel and making tackles. I’m ready for the challenge and I’m looking forward to playing at the Stadium of Light in front of the supporters.”

Seelt put pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Black Cats this weekend and the defender will link up with his new team-mates at the Academy of Light on Monday when pre-season training gets underway.

The 20-year-old departs his homeland following a six-year spell in Eindhoven, during which he made 63 appearances and scored seven goals for Jong PSV in the Eerste Divisie – the Dutch second tier.

Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman added: “Jenson is a player that we have been tracking for some time and he’s gained invaluable experience at senior level over the past two seasons, regularly playing in the Dutch second tier and being part of PSV’s senior matchday squad.

Naturally comfortable in possession, he also possesses some great defensive attributes that will help him adapt to our playing identity and Championship football. He is excited to get started and we are delighted to welcome him to SAFC.”

Seelt made his first-team debut for the 24-time Eredivisie champions in May 2022 against PEC Zwolle and was named in the senior matchday squad on nine occasions during the 2022-23 campaign.
