Struggling RFC Seraing appoint former Standard Liege and Zulte Waregem head coach

RFC Seraing have announced that Mbaye Leye will be their new head coach. The former Zulte Waregem and Standard Liege head coach takes over the side as they sit second bottom in the Challenger Pro League. Last season, the side from Liege were relegated from the Pro League and it appears that they could be set for a return to the third tier of Belgian football.

Seraing’s recent rise from the third tier came at the behest of Metz, who loaned them players such as Georges Mikautadze. Mikautadze and the rest of the Metz loanees helped propel the side up the leagues and into the Pro League. However, since Metz were then relegated to Ligue 2, the connection between the clubs has not been as beneficial for the Belgian side. Even though Metz have since returned to Ligue 1, Seraing are still struggling.

Leye spent most of last season as head coach of Zulte Waregem, one of the other sides that were relegated from the Pro League. The former Zulte Waregem player did not see out the season with the side, being sacked during the campaign. However, it had little impact as the side were still relegated. They have faired much better this season than Seraing, sitting second and chasing an immediate return to the Pro League.
