Emanuel Emegha has experienced backlash from his own Strasbourg supporters after announcing his imminent move to Chelsea next season.
Fans held up banners in the crowd, baying for the forwardโs revoked captaincy against Le Havre. They have also voiced discontent with the French sideโs link to Todd Boehlyโs BlueCo franchise. Strasbourgโs chairman, Marc Keller, has had to come out and voice his support for the Dutch striker.
After that game, head coach Liam Rosenior stated that he fully supports Emegha and that he will retain his captaincy as long as the manager remains at the club. Keller, during a press conference, supported Rosenior.
โThis is unacceptable; I couldnโt have imagined this. Emegha was attacked. The club is built on values โโthat donโt represent them. We will take action.โ
Alain Plet, Deputy Director General of Strasbourg, had more to say on the latter point. โWeโre going to develop measures that weโll present to those involved. Things are going to change. Iโll tell those involved first what those changes will be. We shouldnโt cause panic, but some people have crossed a line.โ So, the exact nature of the measures is not yet known.
Emegha was sidelined for Strasbourg last weekend due to an injury, yet still saw these nasty events unfold. Itโs not yet known whether the striker will be able to play against Paris FC on Sunday. If he does, it will be his first encounter with his own supporters on the pitch since these incidents started happening.
