Steven Bergwijn and Ahmetcan Kaplan set to return to Ajax squad for crucial clash with Sparta Rotterdam

According to Voetbal International, Steven Bergwijn and Ahmetcan Kaplan have been deemed fit to face Sparta Rotterdam this Sunday after the pair suffered injuries. Kaplan came off during Ajax’s 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, while Bergwijn has been out of action with a muscle injury for over a month.

After crashing out of the Conference League, manager John Van ‘t Schip told the media that he’d received positive news from the medical staff regarding Kaplan’s injury. “From what I understood from the doctor, he is now doing reasonably well,” Van ‘t Schip said, adding that he should be back in the squad on Sunday. Speaking about Steven Bergwijn’s injury the Ajax boss said, “If everything continues like this, he will hopefully be there on Sunday, but he is certainly not going to play ninety minutes against Sparta.” Steven Berghuis and Josip Sutalo remain doubts for the Sparta game.

Ajax face Sparta Rotterdam this Sunday at Het Kasteel, in a clash that will see 5th place take on 11th place in the Eredivisie table. The Dutch giants have one once in their last six league games, which has led to the determination of their Champions League and Europa League qualification chances for next season. Meanwhile, Sparta are on a poor run themselves, having one just once in their last eight games.
