Stef Peeters turns down Standard Liege and others to join second tier Patro Eisden

Patro Eisden are set to announce a remarkable transfer coup. The side from the Belgian second tier, known as the Challenger Pro League, will announce the signing of former Eupen midfielder Stef Peeters. The 31-year-old had been on the radar for a number of top flight clubs, including Standard Liege, who made offers to bring him in as a free agent. However, the former Eupen captain has decided to join the project at Patro Eisden instead, becoming their new number eight.

Without the quality of Peeters, Eupen would almost certainly have been relegated last season. The former Cercle Brugge man scored seven goals and provided seven assists in 31 matches for the Pandas. This was his best scoring season since joining the side in 2019. Overall, he played 101 games for Eupen, scoring 13 goals and providing 22 league assists. Peeters has also played for Caen, Zulte Waregem, Sint Truiden, MVV Maastricht, Sparta Rotterdam and Genk, where he began his career.
