Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Standard Liege are looking to bring in Gavin Bazunu from Southampton. Given that the Saints paid a hefty fee to sign Bazunu from Manchester City a few seasons ago, the deal is set to be a loan deal without a purchase option. The benefit for Southampton is that the young Irish international would get regular game time for a team competing to finish in the top six and have a shot at European football.
For Standard, bringing in a player as young as Bazunu with the wealth of experience he already has would be a huge boost. The goalkeeper has played 78 times for the Saints, with 32 of these being in the Premier League during the 2022/2023 season. A major injury last April has kept him out of the side for a prolonged period, but he made a comeback with the second team recently. The goalkeeper, who started with Shamrock Rovers before moving to Manchester in 2019, has also had spells with Rochdale and Southamptonโs rivals Portsmouth on loan.
