Kevin Sauvage is reporting that, despite reports to the contrary, Standard Liege have no intention to terminate the contract of winger Moussa Djenepo. The former Southampton and Everton winger is one of the highest earners at the club and Standard are willing to help him leave if possible. Djenepo returned to Standard in 2023 from Southampton, having made the reverse transfer back in 2019.
However, Djenepo spent the 2024/2025 season on loan in Turkey with Antalyaspor, where he scored two goals in 27 games. He had only managed to score once for Standard during the 2023/2024 campaign. Djenepo spent four seasons in England with Southampton in the Premier League. He made 91 appearances for the Saints, scoring five goals. During his first spell with Standard, Djenepo had scored 12 goals in 61 games.
The Malian international has always been a player that is entertaining to watch, given his ability to beat a man and willingness to bring in tricks and flicks. However, his lack of end product has hampered his career to this point. For Djenepo, it is important to get some first team regular football to start the season, especially if he wants to join the Mali side for the upcoming AFCON in Morocco.
