Standard Liege were the first side to sack their head coach a few weeks ago, with Mircea Rednicโs return to the club lasting for just five matches. In his place has come former Zutle Waregem and most recently Dender head coach Vincent Euvrard. KV Mechelen visit Liege in Euvrardโs first home game in charge, one that he will be hoping can help restart Standardโs season.
Standard have lost three in a row after a decent start to the season. To get things going again, they will need to do better against KV Mechelen than they did last season. The sides faced each other four times, with all four ending in draws. Three of these games ended 0-0. Standard were poor in front of goal last season though, and this year they have shown more creativity with five goals. Thomas Henry already has two to start the season and will be hoping to grab another this weekend.
KV Mechelen have had a much better start to their season under Frederik Vanderbiest. Malinwa sit third with just one defeat in six games, coupled with three wins and two draws. They have scored nine goals in six games but have also shipped seven at the other end. How they cope without long time captain and club legend Rob Schoofs will be interesting. The midfielder has left to join defending champions Union St Gilloise, with KV Mechelen turning to Mathis Servais from Beveren as his replacement. Upfront Lion Lauberbach has started the season well, with three goals in six games.
