Standard Liege turn to Albanian international as replacement for Newcastle United loanee

Sudinfo are reporting that Standard Liege have set their sights on signing Lindon Selahi this winter. The Albanian international was at the club previously, but only made one appearance. He currently plays for Croatian side Rijeka, having joined them from FC Twente in 2021. He has made 92 appearances for the side and scored six goals. So far this season, the defensive midfielder has played 14 games, with two goals and one assist to his name.

The paper reports that Selahi is seen as a replacement for Isaac Hayden. The on loan Newcastle United midfielder is rumoured to be looking to return to his parent club over the winter. Selahi can play as a defensive midfielder, but also bring creativity to the Standard midfield that has been lacking at times this season. The 24-year-old is also a full Albanian international.

After leaving Standard in 2019 to join FC Twente, the midfielder also had a loan spell at Willem II. Overall he played 32 games for Twente between 2019 and 2021, scoring twice.
