Standard Liege set to sign Wilfried Kanga on loan

Sacha Tavolieri is reporting that Standard Liege are set to sign Wilfried Kanga on loan. According to Tavolieri, the 25-year-old Ivorian striker has been training with the side while the transfer is being negotiated. The former Young Boys striker joined Hertha Berlin for €5m last summer, but only managed to score two goals in 23 Bundesliga appearances.

Prior to joining the German side, Kanga scored 19 goals in 45 matches, as well as providing six assists. The striker has also been capped twice by the Cote d’Ivoire national side.

Standard are clearly in need of a new striker, as the only side currently without a goal after the first two Belgian Pro League matches. They lost their opening game to Sint-Truiden, one of the favourites for relegation. In their second game on Friday night they lost 1-0 to Union St Gilloise, with with William Balikwisha getting sent off after two yellow cards in the first half.
