Standard Liege have announced that Mircea Rednic has been sacked as head coach of the club after just five games. Reports had surfaced yesterday that the head coach was under pressure and a poor performance against OH Leuven would be the end of his time in charge. Yet the club have moved quickly to dismiss Rednic from his role as head coach before the clash this weekend.
In his place, HLN are reporting that Dender head coach Vincent Euvrard will take over at Standard Liege. The former Zulte Waregem and RWDM head coach did an incredible job to keep the side in the Pro League last season despite being heavy favourites to go straight back down. Dender will certainly struggle without Euvrard, having started the season without a win in five games.
Rednic was always a strange appointment by Standard Liege this season and it felt that, if the side did not get off to a strong start, he would be gone. However, they did get off to a good start and only the past two performances have been below expectations. Sadly for Rednic, those two games proved enough for the decision makers at Standard Liege to make a head coaching change.
