Standard Liege looking to bring Reading’s Yakou Meite to Belgium in the summer

As reported by Sacha Tavolieri, Standard Liege are planning for the summer transfer window already, with Reading’s Ivorian attacker Yakou Meite on their shopping list. The 27-year-old can operate out wide or up front and is a fan favourite among the Royals faithful. After spending a few seasons on loan since joining from PSG, the player consistently hit double figures in goals from 2018/2019 to 2020/2021.

However, this season, with injuries, he has not been a regular under former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince. Instead the manager has preferred to use Andy Carroll in the striker role, with Meite not being played out wide either. Those wo have seen a lot of Meite would agree that his best position is actually out wide, despite his desire to play more centrally.

For Standard Liege, the signing would be free given the players contract is up in the summer. Given that Ince doesn’t appear to like what Meite brings to the club, and the uncertainty around the clubs financial future, it doesn’t appear that a new contract is likely. furthermore, the club are due to be docked more points which would put them in the battle to avoid the drop to League 1.
