Sports doctor confident that Belgian record scorer Romelu Lukaku will feature at the World Cup

Experienced sports doctor Chris Goossens has told Het Nieuwsblad that he believes Romelu Lukaku could make the World Cup. During the interview, Goossens was asked if he thinks Lukaku could be ready for the World Cup. He replied “The fact that he has now been taken out of the group and is being prepared individually makes me hopeful. If there is no tear, I think he can even come into action during the first group match. Be careful, not 90 minutes straight away. Then I would rather calmly build it up”.

Lukaku will not be able to play any club matches for Inter Milan ahead of the World Cup, causing concern that the countries record scorer will not be fit enough to feature in Qatar. Other options for Roberto Martinez include Lois Openda of Lens, who scored a hat-trick against against Tolouse. Another striker that Martinez could turn to is former Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi, who is currently playing for Fenerbahce in Turkey. Batshuayi has five goals in six games in the Super Lig.
