Handful of clubs looking to sign former Antwerp winger from Burnley

Sacha Tavolieri has revealed that former Antwerp winger Manuel Benson could be set to leave Burnley in January. According to Tavolieri, Southampton have been in discussions with the Lancashire side to bring Benson back to the Championship on loan. The Saints are hoping to add a purchase option to the deal as well. However, Adam Blackmore of BBC Solent is reporting that Burnley are unlikely to let Benson join Southampton. However, they are not the only side looking to sign the winger in January.

Despite being one of the more important players for the side last season, Benson has struggled for game time in the Premier League. The 26-year-old has only managed four appearances, which has not been helped by injuries. Yet even at the start of the season he spent most of the time on the bench. Compare this to last season, where under Vincent Kompany the Belgian played 33 matches, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists.

Prior to joining Burnley Benson was at Antwerp in Belgium. After a handful of loan spells, including at Mouscron and Genk, he broke into the first team during the 2021/2022 season. In 34 matches he scored five goals and provided six assists.
