South Africa looking at stealing Lens talent from Belgium

As reported by Voetbalkrant, South Africa’s Belgian head coach Hugo Broos has his eyes set on Lens teenager Ayanda Sishuba. The 18-year-old has featured for Belgium’s U18 side but is also eligible to play for Bafana Bafana. The youngster made his senior debut in the sides 3-0 defeat to Monaco, coming off the bench to play 18 minutes. Speaking at a press conference, Broos said that given the level Sishuba is playing at, it would be good to give him a chance in the South African system.

Pressure will now be applied to Belgium to see if they view the attacking midfielder as a future Red Devil. It is also not known what the player’s preference is. However, more appearances for Lens will certainly force both countries into approaching Sishuba with the opportunity to feature for both sides at senior level.

Broos has been in charge of south Africa since 2021, having managed the likes of Cameroon in the past. The former Belgian international was also a head coach at Genk, Trabzonspor, Zulte Waragem and Oostende in Europe. Broos has also managed outside of European club football with JS Kabylie and NA Hussein Dey in Algeria.
