Slavia Prague v Ajax Preview: Amsterdam club face tricky tie against inform Czech side

Ajax head to Prague on Thursday evening looking to keep up their good start to the Europa League campaign. Last time out they beat Besiktas 4-0 at home and have not lost in six games in all competitions. Their opponents are also on a great run of form. Slavia Prague beat Ludogorets 2-0 away from home and have now won six games in all competitions. Their only defeat, and only game they didn’t win, this season came in a Champions League qualifier away to Lille.

Teenage winger Malick Diouf has been in fantastic form for the side this season. In eight games in the Czech top flight he has scored five goals and grabbed one assist. The side also brought in former Zulte Waregem forward Tomas Chory in the summer from Viktoria Plzen. The striker scored 18 goals in 47 games for them last season and has already started well for Slavia with five goals and three assists in 14 games. The side are also incredibly strong at the back. In nine league games this season they have conceded just once and scored 20.

Ajax are slowly getting some momentum going, even if the performances have not been great. It took them well over 70 minutes to break the deadlock against an RKC Waalwijk side that had not won a game all season. Bertrand Traore has been in good form, grabbing two goals and three assists in his last four games. He is the only player to have scored more than once this season.

This trip to Prague looks to be, on paper at least, one of the toughest games for Ajax in this years Europa League competition.
