SK Beveren edge out Lierse to keep John Textor’s RWDM from promotion

SK Beveren knew that, after RWD Molenbeek beat Club Brugge NXT, anything other than a win would mean their chances of promotion would be slim. The game did not start off well for Beveren, falling behind after 23 minutes to a Guillaume De Schryver strike. Beveren’s top scorer, Thierno Barry, pulled one back for the promotion hopefuls, with the experienced Dieurmerci Mbokani turning the game around in the 32nd.

De Schryver got his second in the 68th to give RWDM hope that a draw would suffice on the final day. However, with under 20 minutes to go Lucas Ribeiro gave Beveren the lead and all three points.

Now, RWDM are just one point ahead of Beveren and will face Anderlecht Futures in a Brussels derby in the final game of the season. At the same time Beveren will face Club Brugge NXT at home, hopeful that the young Mauves will be bale to deny RWDM all three points.
