Sint Truiden’s shock 3-0 defeat to Kortrijk last weekend has clearly spooked the clubs hierarchy. Het Nieuwsblad have revealed that the club are actively searching for a new head coach, with a number of candidates having said no. For now, Felice Mazzu remains in charge, but that may change quickly. Reports suggest that former Beerschot and recently Deinze head coach Hernan Losada could be arriving imminently.
This would mean the club would have gone with a third head coach in just a matter of months. After a disastrous start under Christian Lattanzio the side quickly moved to bring Mazzu in. While things did improve for some time, they were unable to avoid a bottom four finish and thus a fight for survival in the relegation play-offs. Things started well against Beerschot, but the defeat to Kortrijk has given the Kerels a fighting chance of catching Sint Truiden.
Yet Losada, while a talented head coach, is a questionable choice at this point in the season. It is understandable that a number of candidates were not keen to join the club in such a precarious position. Losada is known for a gung-ho attacking style that is entertaining to watch but can leave his side vulnerable at the back. Not something that is needed in a relegation scrap. The side face Cercle Brugge at the weekend, the first of two meetings that could shape the play-off picture. If Cercle can win both games, they will be guaranteed of survival. On the other hand, Sint Truiden could turn things around quickly if there were to grab six points.
