Sint-Truiden appoint former Bayern Munich midfielder Thorsten Fink as head coach

Sint-Truiden have finally announced who will be succeeding Bernd Hollerbach for the 2023/2024 season. Former Bayern Munich player Thorsten Fink will lead the club in its 100th season. The German has managed in a variety of countries and at some big clubs, such as Hamburg, FC Basel, Vissel Kobe and Austria Wien.

Fink said ‘I am thrilled to be joining STVV and being part of a club with such a rich history and passionate fans. being on the eve of the 100th season makes it extra special. Together with the staff and the players, we will do everything we can to make it a memorable year‘.

During his time with Basel, Fink won two league titles and one domestic cup. With Vissel Kobe he also won the domestic cup in Japan.

The reasoning behind the move, according to club CEO Takayuki Tateishi, is that they see Fink as the right man to develop the younger players at the club. The German has most recently been in Latvia with FC Riga and Al-Nasr in the UAE.

Fink will certainly have a lot of work to do over the summer, given that the majority of the current squad are either out of contract or returning to their parent clubs. Hollerbach had a successful time with the club, with a focus on defensive stability over attacking flair. Under the German the side narrowly missed out on the play-offs in 2021/2022, while this year they finished comfortably in mid-table.
