Simon Mignolet believes pressure got to Club Brugge in draw against OH Leuven

Speaking after their 1-1 draw at home with OH Leuven, Simon Mignolet told Het Nieuwsblad that he believes that the pressure on the side led to the late equaliser from the away side. The Belgian international said “It’s not always easy for the young boys. When the pressure mounts, anxiety may kick in a bit”.

Club’s draw with OHL follows a disappointing cup defeat to Sint-Truiden, with the side losing 4-1 at home. After a meeting between the board and head coach Carl Hoefkens the club decided against relieving the former Stoke player of his duties. However, given the poor result at home against OHL, the pressure on Hoefkens will certainly have increased.

Club’s next game in the league will be against runaway leaders Genk, who they beat to open the season. Genk suffered their second defeat of the season against Kortrijk, in which debutant goalkeeper Tom Vanderberghe kept a clean sheet. Genk remain top, but their lead over second place Union has been cut down to just seven points following the Brussel’s side 3-0 victory over KV Oostende.
