Despite the stinging feeling of being beaten by a club he left just last month, Santiago Gimenez has given the staff and all the players of Feyenoord a Milan shirt following the Rotterdam club’s historic win at San Siro.
The former Feyenoord favourite headed AC Milan into the lead after 37 seconds on Tuesday evening but to ultimately no avail. The visitors fought back with Julian Carranza’s fine header from a smart Hugo Bueno cross and drew 1-1 to win 2-1 on aggregate and advance in the Champions League.
John de Wolf, assistant coach at De Kuip, revealed all on Radio 538 on Wednesday morning:
“I spoke to Gimenez afterwards, because he came into the dressing room. He brought an AC Milan shirt for the entire staff and all the players. That says so much about how great he is. He wished us luck in the next round. That’s how we know Santi as a really great person. Those are the beautiful moments that happen behind the camera.”
