RWDM turn to Lyon youth coach Gueïda Fofana to lead play-off campaign over Igor De Camargo

It had been expected, and even announced by the club, that Igor De Camargo would lead RWDM into the play-offs. The side sacked Yannick Ferrera after they missed out on automatic promotion on the final day of the season, with RAAL La Louviere scoring in the dying minutes to leapfrog RWDM. However, the side have now announced that it will in fact be Gueïda Fofana who will take over. The position is temporary until the end of the season.

Fofana was a professional player for Lyon but persistent injuries saw him retire at the age of just 25. Now, the 33-year-old will be in charge of his first professional men’s team. He had been working in the youth set up at Lyon but has now been drafted in to try and ensure RWDM go up via the play-offs. The two sides are linked through owner John Textor, who has a say in both clubs. RWDM have had coaches brought in from other clubs within the Textor network before and it appears that this is what has happened here. For now, De Camargo will remain with the club as an assistant to Fofana.

RWDM face a tricky clash with Lokeren-Temse on Thursday in the first leg of their promotion play-off. The other tie involves Patro Eisden and SK Beveren.
