Ruud van Nistelrooy admits PSV may have underestimated opponents this season

Ruud van Nistelrooy has admitted that some of PSV’s poor results this season may have been caused by the fact that they’ve underestimated opponents.

It’s been a mixed start to Van Nistelrooy’s first campaign in charge of the club. He has led them to wins over Ajax, Feyenoord and Monaco, but they’ve also suffered defeats to Cambuur, FC Twente and Rangers.

Discussing what has gone wrong in those matches, he admits they may have been guilty of underestimating their opponents and is focused on ensuring that doesn’t happen again against Zurich.

“This weekend’s game was an incident,” he said referring to the 4-0 loss to Cambuur.

“Before, we have bounced back well every time and we now have to fill things in better. One of the problems that remain is that we have conceded too many goals and we have to deal with that. It is also too erratic what we do.

“I don’t see the game against FC Zurich being easy at all. We are not in a position to underestimate anyone and may have felt the pain of that very recently.”
