Ruben Kluivert is leaving Casa Pia for Ligue 1. Patrick Kluivertโs son will join Olympique Lyon, the club announced on Friday evening.
This means the 24-year-old defender will play in the Europa League next season. It briefly looked like Lyon would play in Ligue 2, but that penalty was overturned.
Kluivert previously played in the Netherlands for FC Utrecht and FC Dordrecht. Last summer, Portuguese side Casa Pia signed the man-marker for โฌ200,000.
This is the latest move for the renowned football family. Rubenโs brother, Justin, plays for Bournemouth, his father, Patrick, is the Indonesian national team manager, and his younger brother, Shane, plays for Barcelonaโs youth academy.
Joining for โฌ3.7 million, Ruben Kluivert has signed a contract with Lyon until the summer of 2030. This amount could increase by another โฌ600,000 through bonuses. Casa Pia is entitled to fifteen per cent of any future transfer profit.
If he plays an official match, 24-year-old Ruben Kluivert will become the fourth Dutchman in the history of Olympique Lyonnais, after Michel Valke, Kenny Tete and Memphis Depay.
