Standard Liege coach Ronny Deila was full of praise for William Balikwisha ahead of this weekends Walloon derby against RSC Charleroi.
Speaking to the press before the game, as reported by Voetbalkrant, Deila said “He was always good and knows what to do with a ball…if his statistics continue to follow, then he will become a really top player”. Balikwisha only featured once in the 2021/2022 season, but so far he has played seven matches this season, scoring once and getting two assists.
Balikwshia himself wanted to give credit to the Standard fans. During the same press conference the midfielder said “The supporters have always been there, in good times and in bad times. It’s really important for me to give them something on Sunday“.
Deila also confirmed that Konstantinos Laifis is fit to return to the side following a couple of weeks out being injured.
Standard go into the derby in 6th place, having won four of their last five games. They are two places above their Walloon rivals Charleroi.
