Ronald Koeman set to give players a chance to prove themselves during upcoming friendlies

Ronald Koeman has told the media that he plans to use the upcoming friendlies against Norway and Ecuador to have a real look at a number of players ahead of the World Cup. For many, these two friendlies in March will be their last chance to prove to Koeman that they deserve a spot on the plane this summer. With players like Noah Lang and Memphis Depay likely to go, but currently out injured, a number of other players will see a chance to prove to Koeman that he cannot ignore their claim to a spot in the final squad.

One of those players hoping to prove themselves will be AZ star Kees Smit. The 20-year-old looks set to make his debut for the senior Dutch side during one of the upcoming friendlies.

The Netherlands will face Tunisia and Japan in Group F of the World Cup. Japan will certainly be the harder of the two sides, and both they and Oranje will expect to qualify from the group. They will also have eyes on the upcoming play-offs for the final spots. Oranje will be focused on the UEFA path, with the winner of Path B joining them in Group F. This will be one of Sweden, Ukraine, Poland or Albania.
