Ronald Koeman criticises Ajax striker Brian Brobbey: ‘During the international period you saw that his approach and the way he finished was not good’

Netherlands national team head coach Ronald Koeman has strongly criticised Brian Brobbey, labelling his finishing as ‘not good’. The 21-year-old Ajax striker made his senior national team debut against Greece, during the last international break, but Brobbey failed to impress Ronald Koeman during his 29 minutes on the pitch.

Speaking to Rondo, Koeman shared his honest thoughts on Brian Brobbey, saying ‘I still hope he continues to develop. During the international period, we were finishing and then you saw that his approach and the way he finished was not good.’ So far this season, Brobbey has featured in all 15 of Ajax’s matches across all competitions. The Amsterdammers have endured their worst-ever start to a league campaign as they’re currently 11th in the Eredivisie table.

Brian Brobbey has managed to convert five times this season, but still, Ronald Koeman isn’t impressed. ‘I wonder: what do you do at the clubs where you played? Johnny Bosman, with all due respect, should then become the striker coach he is looking forward to. But how long was he at Ajax? Then went to Leipzig, came back again… As a coach, you go the extra mile with that, right? It’s not about getting fitter, it’s about finishing.’

Brobbey may get given the chance to impress Koeman, as he’s been included in the provisional squad for this months Euro qualifiers with Ireland and Gibraltar. For now, the striker’s focus will be on Ajax’s upcoming games against Brighton and Almere City.
