Ronald de Boer: Giovanni van Bronckhorst “almost deserves a statue” for what he has done at Rangers

Ronald de Boer feels that Giovanni van Bronckhorst “almost deserves a statue” for what he has done at Rangers since becoming the club’s manager.

Van Bronckhorst replaced Steven Gerrard as manager last season and has since taken the club to the Europa League final and back into the Champions League this year following a play-off win over PSV.

While things haven’t gone quite as well domestically, he has still been widely praised for the job he has done, and former Rangers player De Boer thinks he’s nearly deserving of a statue.

“He performed great. He almost deserves a statue for what he has meant to Rangers,” the 52-year-old told Sky Sports.

“Actually, he is the one who has brought Rangers back to the European stage. After so many years, the club is back where it belongs, partly because of Gio.

“Not to forget, also credits for the work of Steven Gerrard. He set the project in motion, Gio finished it. Now it’s up to him to continue it. I have a lot of confidence in him.”
