Romelu Lukaku close to joining Cristiano Ronaldo and Ali Daei in special achievement

After his blitz against Azerbaijan for Belgium in their last Euro 2024 qualifier, Romelu Lukaku now sits on 83 international goals. If he managed to grab another 17, something that seems inevitable given he is just 30, he will become only the third players in men’s footballing history to score 100 international goals.

The first to reach 100 goals was Iranian striker Ali Daei. The man from Ardabil, who played for the likes of Bayern Munich and Hertha Berlin during his career, scored an incredible 109 goals for the Iranian national team. The other, who continues to score for his country today, is the one and only Cristiano Ronaldo. Portugal’s favourite son currently sits on 128 goals in 204 games, numbers that will arguably never be beaten.

If Lukaku can continue to play at the top level until he too is 38 like Ronaldo, he will certainly have gotten over the 100 mark. Either way, when he eventually retires from the Red Devils, Lukaku should be remembered as one of the greatest international forwards of his generation.
