Romelu Lukaku being evaluated day-by-day as Red Devils hope record scorer will play final group game

The Red Devils have moved from Kuwait to their base in Qatar and had their first training session, in which all players featured apart from Romelu Lukaku and Thomas Meuneir. As reported by Het Nieuwsblad, Meuneir is recovering from a fractured cheek bone, although he was able to play against Egypt. Lukaku is still not able to play, and is training individually. Hope remains that he will be able to play in the group stages, as Roberto Martinez did say that he would not pick the striker if he wasn’t sure he could feature in one of the group games.

Lukaku is training individually, and the hope amongst the Red Devils staff is that he will be fit enough to feature in the final group game against Croatia. In the meantime, Lois Openda, who scored against Egypt, and Michy Batshuayi will be battling it out for the position left by Lukaku.

Belgium open their campaign against World Cup debutants Canada on the 23rd of November.
