FCSB host Go Ahead Eagles in the Europa League tonight, as both sides begin their continental campaigns. Voetbal International have taken a look through the Romanian media, and the Deventer clubโs reviews have been highly complimentary.
Gazeta Sporturilor have praised Go Aheadโs long journey to the Europa League stage. โThis is simply a team that can now sign players for a million euros, just like in Liga 1 (Romaniaโs top league). This is a team that is constantly evolving and proves that you can reach the top from something small if you take the right steps. They keep climbing to that top, although we donโt know how high that top is.โ
Victor Edvardsen is being labelled as the biggest threat. โGo Ahead plays a 4-1-3-2 system, which we donโt often see in Romania. Go Ahead has clear playing principles, comparable to BK Hรคcken and Silkeborg IF.โ The comparison with the latter club, in particular, feels like a nightmare throwback in Romania, as Silkeborg defeated FCSB 10-0 over two matches in the then-group stage of the Conference League in 2022.
Bucharest newspaper Cotidianul have described Go Ahead as โthe unexpected cup winner from the Netherlands.โ
โFCSB are very optimistic because they believe the team is mentally strong and that there will be a lot of support from the stands. The stadium is sold out.โ Gandul, on the other hand, sees the job of FCSB coach Alias โโCharalambous at stake in Deventer. โIt will be a difficult away match in the Netherlands; there is unrest around the team.โ
Club owner George Becali also gave an interview to the Romanian newspaper Sport. โI know absolutely nothing about this Dutch team, but the coach knows about it. He said we can beat them, that theyโre not a great team, and that they pass a lot. Three points are worth 450,000 euros,โ the club owner beamed, looking forward to the prize money. Melvin Boelโs side will no doubt use that latter statement as further fuel for victory this evening.
