RKC Waalwijk interested in 19-year-old Barcelona defender Chadi Riad

According to Voetbal International, RKC Waalwijk are interested in Barcelona’s Chadi Riad. The 19-year-old Moroccan defender has featured 34 times for Barcelona B and once for the first team this season. Riad is being linked with a loan move to Waalwijk.

Barcelona are still in doubt about whether to let Riad leave on loan. The move depends on Barcelona B’s potential promotion from the Spanish third tier to the second tier. Currently, they’re fifth in the league.

Riad joined La Masia in 2019 from RCD Mallorca’s academy. The left-footed defender was born in Mallorca to Moroccan parents and in March Riad received a call-up to the Moroccan senior national team by manager Walid Regragui.

Waalwijk, who still have a chance of finishing the season in a European play-off spot, are set to lose several players at the end of the season. Veteran defender Hans Mulder and right-back Saïd Bakari, are both moving on, meaning Waalwijk need to recruit a new defender. If Chadi Riad joins Waalwijk, both the club and the player will benefit. Riad will gain first-team experience, and Waalwijk will have an exciting, young defender.
