Rik De Mil to take temporary charge of Club Brugge as talks with Alfred Schreuder stall

HLN are reporting that Rik De Mil will be placed in temporary charge for Club Brugge’s upcoming match against Standard Liege following the sacking on Scott Parker on Wednesday. Following their 5-1 humiliation in Lisbon, Parker was removed from his position as head coach after just 12 games in charge. During those 12 games, the former Bournemouth and Fulham man won just two, against Zulte Waregem and Gent.

It was presumed by many that Club Brugge would turn to last seasons head coach Alfred Schreuder. Last campaign, after Phillipe Clement departed for Monaco midway through the season, Schreuder was brought in and managed to steer the side to a third successive title, ending the fairy tale campaign for Union St Gilloise. Since leaving Ajax Schreuder was linked to the Leeds job, but did not end up at Elland Road.

However, HLN are reporting that Schreuder wanted a longer contract than Club are willing to offer at this time, while he also may wait till the summer to see what options there are. It is not unlikely that De Mil could remain until the end of the season if an agreement with Schreuder cannot be reached.
