Relief for Westerlo as they end nine game winless run

Westerlo ensured that every side in the Belgian Pro League has won at least once this season when they narrowly overcame fellow basement dwellers Kortrijk. The Kerel’s only managed to win their first game last weekend and were hoping to build some momentum. However, a solitary goal from Erdon Daci was enough to decide the game in favour of Westerlo.

The game was not without controversy however, with Kortrijk captain Abdelkahar Kadri believing he had scored the equaliser during the second half, only for VAR to intervene. The defeat means that Kortrijk return to the bottom of the table with just five points from 10 games.

Westerlo are second bottom with six points from their 10 games. With two draws in their previous matches, it does appear that they may have slowly turned the corner with three unbeaten. They travel to Brussels to face RWDM next weekend hoping to finally kickstart their season and push into midtable. For goal scorer Daci, this was a welcome return after a 2022/2023 season that was blighted by injury. He only managed two appearances and one goal for the side last year.
