RC Lens register ‘concrete interest’ for Feyenoord’s Jeyland Mitchell

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, RC Lens want to move for Feyenoord’s Jeyland Mitchell (20). Although the Rotterdam club signed the Costa Rican in the summer for €2.5m from Alajuelense, the centre-back has seen limited game time at De Kuip.

While it is unknown whether the side managed by Brian Priske are open to a potential departure, RC Lens remain “interested in Mitchell, while the club management of Feyenoord has already been informed about this concrete interest”, according to Romano.

In his first six months in Rotterdam, Mitchell only played 32 minutes split over two official matches. However, his career in red and white is still in its early stages and it’s worth recalling that he still has a long-term contract with Feyenoord until mid-2029. This may hint at the club’s faith in the youngster, who already has 13 appearances under his belt for the Costa Rica national team.

In fact, the Feyenoord general manager Dennis te Kloese said that Mitchell might be pushed forward at Feyenoord in the right-back position. It may be a worthy compromise to provide the 20-year-old some more minutes.

“We want to give Mitchell some time,” te Kloese said. “He made a good impression in Marbella (at the training camp) and he (has) also played at right back for the Costa Rican national team.”
