Rangers, Oxford, Reading, Omonia Nicosia, Morecambe, RWDM? Former Manchester City academy prospect searching for new home in Belgium

Mikey Delbeke is reporting that Brandon Barker is currently on trial with RWDM. The former Manchester City academy prospect is looking for what would be his 10th club, including loan destinations, at the age of 27. He most recently was at Morecambe in League Two where he made just two appearances since joining in January of 2024. Barker is looking to join up with Yannick Ferrera, who was his head coach during his season with Omonia Nicosia in 2022/2023.

That season in Cyprus is the most games that Barker has played for a club since his time with Oxford during the 2020/2021 season. He made 25 appearances for Omonia, scoring twice. One of these goals came during his six appearances in the Europa League. Prior to all of this, he had had a few loan spells while coming through the Manchester City academy. He only made one senior appearance for the side, spending time on loan at Rotherham, NAC Breda, Hibernian and Preston. He joined Rangers permanently in 2019, playing 26 times across two season. For the end of the 2020/2021 season he joined Oxford United, where he had his best spell in terms of productivity. In 22 games he scored three goals and grabbed four assists.

After returning to Rangers his contract was terminated in January of 2022, allowing him to join struggling Reading for the final few months of the season. He only made four appearances for the Royals. Barker will be hoping that he can impress RWDM and find a new home in Belgian football.
