Rangers express interest in Utrecht striker Tasos Douvikas as potential Alfredo Morelos replacement

According to Football Insider, Rangers have expressed interest in FC Utrecht striker Tasos Douvikas. The Eredivisie side values the 23-year-old at approximately £7m.

Douvikas has been a standout player in the Eredivisie this season. The Greek international finished the campaign as the league’s joint-top goalscorer alongside PSV’s Xavi Simons. They both netted 19 times this season. Utrecht finished seventh place in the league, meaning they can qualify for the Europa Conference League via the playoffs.

Douvikas kicked off his career with Asteras Tripolis in the Greek Super League before moving to Volos in 2020. The Athens-born striker scored 14 goals in 34 appearances for the club. In July 2021 he joined Utrecht for a reported fee of more than €1m. Douvikas scored just 10 times during his first season in the Netherlands, but this season he’s netted 21 times in all competitions.

Rangers require a replacement for Alfredo Morelos, who has left the club following the expiry of his contract. The Colombian scored 124 times in 269 appearances at Ibrox. His departure has left Rangers looking for a high-quality long-term replacement. Last summer Rangers signed Croatian striker Antonio Colak from Greek club PAOK. So far, the 29-year-old has bagged 18 goals for the club. The addition of Douvikas could add even more firepower to the attack.
