Rafael van der Vaart hits out at Ajax’s Devyne Rensch

Rafael van der Vaart has criticised Devyne Rensch for having to come off with cramp in Ajax’s match against Liverpool.

After withstanding immense pressure for the entirety of the match at Anfield, Ajax succumbed to it just before the end, conceding from a corner to suffer their first defeat of the Champions League campaign.

While the team didn’t perform as well as many had expected them to, taking just three shots compared to their opponents’ 23, the effort and commitment of the players was unquestionable.

Such effort forced Rensch off with cramp after 68 minutes, and given how young the right-back is, Van der Vaart was far from impressed by that, especially as it wasn’t the first time it has happened.

“I can be quite annoyed by that if I’m honest,” he said on Ziggo.

“It just happens too often for such a young boy. [Noussair] Mazraoui also had a period when he was always bothered by something.

“Rensch played quite ok, but the pressure became great when he was beaten by Luis Díaz. Maybe he thought afterwards: ‘it’s been nice….'”
