Rafael van der Vaart and Wesley Sneijder reached out to Mohamed Ihattaren but were ignored

Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart have both revealed that they contacted Mohamed Ihattaren to try and help him but that the 20-year-old had little interest in speaking to them.

Ajax have announced that they won’t be activating their option to make his loan deal permanent, meaning he’ll return to Juventus in January.

He’s made just one appearance for the Dutch club since joining at the start of the year due to non-footballing issues with the Dutchman getting involved with criminal gangs.

Sneijder says he reached out to his compatriot to offer help but hasn’t received much of a response.

“I have already offered to work with him, but I won’t keep shouting that. He can call me. I hope he will realise that it has to be now,” he said on Veronica Offside.

Van der Vaart also reached out but only received a few emojis in response.

“It makes me a bit sad,” he said on Ziggo Sport.

“Sneijder has said Ihattaren can call him anytime. Well, I also sent him a few texts, then he sent me a thumbs-up. Very little.”
