Puzzle time for David Hubert: Union St Gilloise missing 10 players for Europa League clash with Real Sociedad

Union St Gilloise play their first home game in the Europa League this evening with a clash against La Liga side Real Sociedad. The tie has been made even trickier by the absence of 10 players. Speaking to HLN and the media ahead of the game, David Hubert remained confident despite the large number of absentees. The Union St Gilloise head coach said ‘We are going to put together the best possible puzzle with the boys who are here‘.

It will certainly be a difficult puzzle for Hubert to try and piece together given the names on the list of players missing. Kevin Mac Allister is out for a long time, but he is joined on the injury list by Ross Sykes, Adem Zorgane, Rob Schoofs, Kevin Rodriguez, Ondrej Kricfalusi, and Ilan Hurtevent. Ilan Pavlic and Anouar Ait El Hadj are also missing, having not made the European squad, something that Hubert is likely regretting ahead of the game against Real Sociedad. On top of that, a key player upfront will be missing through suspension. Raul Florucz has already scored six goals in 11 games for Union St Gilloise this season but misses out.

Real Sociedad began their Europa League campaign with a 2-1 loss at home to Bournemouth. The Spanish side have lost three of their last five games, although did beat Deportivo A Coruna 3-2 at the weekend. They also have great quality in the likes of Carlos Soler and World Cup winning forward Mikel Oyarzabal. The latter came off the bench at the weekend but is likely to start in Belgium against Union.

Union won their first game in the competition, beating Czech side Viktoria Plzeň 3-0 away from home.
