Teenager Johan Bakayoko has secured a new contract deal with PSV Eindhoven with the Eredivisie rewarding the winger’s development, the club have announced.
The 19-year-old has remained a starter for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side since the transfers of Cody Gakpo and Noni Madueke in January with the former Anderlecht player picking up 26 appearances and 11 goal involvements in all competitions.
He has been a regular for PSV in recent weeks and has been impressive as the side goes through a transition of addressing their attack and the winger has spoken of his delight for committing his future to the club until the end of the 2025/26 season.
“This shows that the club has confidence in me. I am extremely proud,” he said.
“I want to become a champion here.”
The Belgian U21-international moved to the Philips Stadion from Anderlecht in 2019 where the winger worked his way up the youth system before making his professional debut at 17 for Jong PSV.
Last season, he picked up 17 goals and 12 assists last season in the Eerste Divisie which made him the highest-scoring player in the U21 teams in that division which was noted by Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain who expressed an interest in the player back in the summer.
Director of football Marcel Brands spoke of his delight at getting Bakayoko on a new contract.
He said: “We would like to further develop this young player, with great international potential, for the club.”
