PSV set to resume talks with Xavi Simons over a new contract despite Paris Saint-Germain’s €6m buy back clause

PSV will resume talks with Xavi Simons about a new contract this week, according to Eindhovens Dagblad. The 20-year-old has attracted interest from several top clubs. A return to PSG could be on the cards after it was reported that the French Champions have a buy back clause worth just €6m. PSV are committed to removing the buy back clause from the new contract.

Last season Simons helped PSV to a second-place finish in the Eredivisie. The club also lifted their 11th KNVB Cup. Xavi Simons finished the campaign as the Eredivisie’s joint top scorer with 19 goals and 9 assists in 34 appearances.

The attacking midfielder joined PSV from PSG last summer on a free transfer, but now there is a possibility that the Ligue 1 side could re-sign him, subject to his approval. At present, there’s no indication that Simons wants to return to his former club.

If PSG decide to trigger the buy back clause this summer, they will not be allowed to sell or loan out Simons during this transfer window. During his first spell at the Parc des Princes, the versatile midfielder featured just 11 times, but he’s quickly become PSV Eindhoven’s most important player.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up this summer, as several clubs including Manchester United, Arsenal, Brighton and Tottenham are all keeping tabs on the player. PSG have the advantage, but it’s all up to Simons in making the final decision.
